Meet a Career Counselor

Any concentration, any class year, any career interest – we are here to help you.

Many students have questions about their career journey, including how to get started and what options may be available. The Center for Career Exploration’s career counselors are experts at helping you make a plan and get started. Students who meet with career counselors feel less stress and more confidence about their career decision making because they are in more control of the process.

Appointments scheduled through Brown’s main jobs board, Handshake, are 30 minutes and are available in person, on Zoom, or by phone. No preparation for these meetings is necessary. Just schedule your appointment, and the counselor will take it from there.

You can use these meetings to talk through a range of topics, including:

  • Connecting your concentrations or interests to possible jobs/careers
  • Taking a career inventory to figure out options that align with your skills, values, interests and personality
  • Practicing your job interview or networking skills
  • Conducting an effective job/internship search
  • Managing multiple offers
  • Negotiating your job offer

Before You Meet with a Counselor...

Begin by Meeting with a Peer Career Advisor (PCA)

PCAs can help you get oriented to all the resources of the career center, and can talk to you about getting started with career exploration from a student perspective. In addition, our highly trained, friendly PCAs are the go-to resource for all resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile support.

Once you meet with a PCA, you will be given full Handshake appointment permission to schedule meetings with career counselors.
